BOG SNORKELLING

A tiny village in Wales(UK) is host once a year to people from all over the world who gather for the Bog Snorkelling Championships. A long trench of approx 120 yards/110 m is dug into the bog and the competitors swim one at a time, using snorkels, once up the bog, around a pole and back to the start. The fasted run being the winner, but conventional swimming strokes are banned, although flippers are allowed.

INTERNATIONAL BED RACE

Every year the International Bed race is held in North Yorkshire(England). the competition takes place in a small English town, where teams push especially "adapted" beds on wheels through narrow rural streets. The final stretch of the race involves the crossing of a 6ft deep fast flowing river.

CHEESE ROLLING (The worlds most dangerous sport)

Nobody knows the original origins of the Cheese Rolling competition held eash year at Coopers Hill, near Glouster, England. Specially made Double Glouster cheeses which can weigh approx 9lbs(4kg) and a foot in diameter are hurled down the hill and up to 30 runners chase after it to retrieve it. The cheese can achieve a speed of about 40 mph(65km/h) when rolling down the steep hill.
Most of the competitors fail to reach the bottom on their feet and instead tumble down hundreds of feet to the bottom.

Every year from 10 to 28 competitors are injured and usually several are taken to hospital with head injuries. The most common injuries are broken arms and legs.
Every year thousands of spectators turn up to watch, but even they do not escape injury. On several occasions the cheeses have veered off course and have plunged into the crowds.

WORLD PEA SHOOTING CHAMPINSHIPS

The championships, held annually in Whitcham, England, attract competitors from all over the world. Contestants aim and fire dried peas at a soft clay target. Lately contoversy has been caused by a winners use of a laser guidance system.
